The Florida Strawberry Festival began back in 1930 and remains one of my favorite festivals. I remember going to the FSF with my grandparents and waiting for hours in the stands to get a good seat for the free concert. Lots of great memories!
This year was no exception for great memories... Nancy’s parents joined us this year and David Geno had a ball. He enjoys sliding down the big slide with Pap-pap and it always brings a big smile to his face. David Geno also ate an entire bowl of strawberries himself! The berries this year were very tasty.... not to sweet and not to tart.
One memory is to purchase our shortcake from St. Clement Catholic Church. Since 1974 St. Clement has been serving strawberry shortcake at the festival. Around 150 volunteers prepare berries for what is the oldest, biggest and most profitable annual project for St. Clement Catholic Church. In 2007 the church sold 91,151 shortcakes.... at $3.50 each, the church brought in over $319,000.
